Patient orientation

Your visit to the Emergency Ward

On arrival at the emergency ward go straight to the reception so that a consultation file can be constituted for your child. You will be asked to provide proof of identity, “Vitale” card and some administrative information (name, address, age, telephone number, etc.). The emergency ward receptionist will also deal with the payment formalities when you leave the service.

L’orientation

Your first contact will be with the admissions and triage nurse who will evaluate your child’s health condition. The seriousness of their condition will be established in keeping with a clearly defined scale, from the most urgent – requiring immediate treatment – to less urgent cases, this will affect your waiting time, which will depend directly on the condition of your child as well as that of any others who are waiting; and therefore may bear no relation to the order of arrival.

Life threatening emergencies will always be treated as a priority.

This is why persons arriving after you may be treated before you.

Treatment and examinations

  • Your child will be examined by the doctor who will prescribe the most suitable treatment. They may also request additional tests such as x-rays or blood tests.
  • It may take time to complete these tests and receive the results, you will be asked to wait in the waiting room if the condition of your child allows this. If the pain your child is experiencing increases or there is a change to their condition immediately inform a nurse or reception.
  • A rapid and efficient consultation circuit has been established to reduce the number of additional tests required.

At the end of the treatment

  • If the doctor feels that you can return home with your child. You will be provided with all of the medical and documentation and allowed to return home with your child by your own means or by medical taxi/ambulance.
  • The doctor may require that your child remains at the hospital’s emergency ward under observation to survey their condition.
  • Or your child may be hospitalised, with your agreement, in one of the hospitals wards or units, or transferred to another establishment.

We hope that this information will help you to have a better understanding of the operation of the emergency ward. Our aim is to act reasonably without discrimination and we hope to provide the best quality and safest treatment throughout your child’s stay at our establishment.
