Your time at the Emergency Ward

On arriving at the emergency ward go straight to the reception such that they can compile your consultation file. You will be asked for proof of identity, your “vitale” card and certain administrative information (name, address, age, telephone number, etc.).

Triage

Your first contact will be with the admissions and triage nurse who will evaluate your condition. The seriousness of your condition will be established, in keeping with a clearly defined scale, from the most urgent – requiring immediate treatment, to less urgent – this will determine your waiting time. This will be related to the condition of people waiting and not the order of arrival.

Life-threatening emergencies will be the priority in all cases.

This is why certain people who arrive after you may be treated before you.

Treatment and examinations

  • When the Doctor comes to see you they will examine you and organise the most suitable treatment. They may also request further tests such as X-rays or blood tests.
  • It can take time to complete these tests and receive the results. You may be asked to wait in the waiting room if your condition allows this. If there is an increase to the pain or a notable change to your condition during this wait do not hesitate to speak to a nurse or someone at reception.
  • A rapid consultation circuit has been established to avoid patients requiring firther tests wherever possible.

After the treatment

  • If the Doctor declares that you can return home. You will be able to return home by your own means or by a medical ambulance or taxi, with your medical documents.
  • the doctor may recommend that you remain at the hospital’s emergency ward under observation to survey your condition;
  • or you may have to be hospitalised, with your authorisation, in one of the hospital’s wards or units or be transferred to another establishment.

We hope that this information will help you to have a better understanding of how our emergency ward operates. Our aim is to act in a reasonable way without discrimination always ensuring the quality and safety of the treatment provided throughout your stay in our establishment.
