Osteopathy

Prenatal treatment not covered by standard health insurance. Certain top-up schemes may provide coverage, please contact your health insurance provider.

The HFB proposes the possibility of therapy from a paediatrics and maternity specialised osteopath during your pregnancy and preparation for parenthood.

This osteopathy therapy for mothers and babies begins as soon as the pregnancy is declared and continues during the post-natal period. The sessions are organised either in the basement level of the maternity ward or, for newborns and/or mothers, in your room during your stay at the ward.

Throughout your pregnancy

All future mothers can gain benefit from osteopathy. From the first month of pregnancy to delivery itself, osteopathy is a manual therapy that can be both preventive and curative, it is effective and highly suited to treating physical discomfort (back pain, sciatica in pregnant women), digestive conditions (constipation, nausea, vomiting, etc.) as well as headaches, feeling overwhelmed and excessive tiredness during the first three months of pregnancy.

A mother to be should consult the osteopath three to four weeks before giving birth to check the mobility of the pelvis, especially the coccyx and the sacroiliac joints. The tension of the pelvic floor muscles will also be examined in detail to ensure the best possible preparation for the exertions of giving birth.

An osteopathic bill of health is recommended after giving birth to ensure that the articulations most in use during pregnancy and delivery have returned to their original condition.

From pregnancy to baby

The baby may have differing degrees of facility in coping with their intro-uterine position and finally entering the world. After birth, the smooth adjusted techniques of osteopathy can help the newborn to get relief. A newborn baby can receive osteopathic care within hours of birth. An early osteopathic consultation can avoid or correct cranial asymmetry (flattened cranium, plagiocephaly), help to relive colic re-flux pains or sleeping difficulties. Osteopathy provides genuine support to parenting when combined with regular medical visits. Regular consultations during the first few years will help motor skills (seated, crawling and walking position) and equilibrium during growth.
