Infectious Diseases

Definitions

Infectious diseases are common diseases transmitted by bacteria, virus, fungus or parasites.

Infections treated at the hospital:

  • HIV,
  • viral hepatitis,
  • infections affecting immunodeficiency sufferers,
  • bacterial diseases (pneumonia, pyelonephritis, bone and joint infections, meningitis, etc.),
  • fungal infections (candidiasis, aspergillosis, etc.)
  • parasitic diseases (malaria, amoebiasis, toxoplasmosis).

Infections can be monitored either through consultations or hospitalisation. Hospitalisation largely concerns complex or critical infectious pathologies, which may require isolation or specific precautionary measures related to the risk of transmission.

Treatment of patients remains global, multi-disciplinary and focused on the infectious disorder without neglecting problems related to effects on specific organs.

Infectiology is also transversal within the establishment

  • Assistance in the treatment of infections in the establishment’s other wards and units and/or our outside correspondents through expertise and advice in the prescription of anti-infection medication.
  • Involvement in general hygiene and the fight against nosocomial infections in close collaboration with the operating theatre hygiene staff.
  • Surveillance and treatment of occupational or sexual needlestick injuries: any victim of such an incident may present themselves at the hospital’s emergency ward 24/24. The emergency ward doctors can get in touch with one of the doctors listed below (one is always son call).

The infectious disease unit also participates actively in clinical research, allowing for the proposition of new molecules and new therapeutic strategies.
