Toxicology (tobacco)

Center of our profession

The tobacco specialised toxicologist is a healthcare professional specialised in helping smokers to stop smoking. A complete diagnostic allows them to orient the patient towards the most suitable type of treatment. If the patient prefers, treatment may include regular support throughout the severance process. Any person who wishes to stop smoking can consult a tobacco specialised toxicologist.

Pregnant women who are registered at the maternity ward and would like help to stop smoking can make an appointment with our specially qualified mid-wife: Mrs Laurence Thibonnier .

Before your first consultation, please download and complete the Stop Smoking questionnaire and hand it to the doctor when you come for the consultation.

How?

During the first consultation the tobacco specialised toxicologist will carry out a number of tests and ask some questions to find out the extent of the nicotine dependency: what could slow or interrupt the process, what motivates it, the patient’s psychological state, their fears, etc. After this a programme will be established: a planned date for stopping smoking, the treatment chosen, any additional specific therapy or consultation (dietetics, psychology, etc.) and a date will be fixed for the next appointment to assess progress. During the progress meetings the tobacco specialised toxicologist will evaluate the patient’s mental and physical condition, notably their weight and the evolution of the number of cigarettes consumed in order to know whether to adapt the treatment where necessary.
